The fine individuals at Santa Cruz are hard to please. Some would say "fanatical." For years now full-suspension bikes have relied on the same old cartridge or plastic bearing pivots--basically anything round with a hole in the middle--all held together by bolts and nuts. These have been good enough for most bikes. Surely, they would have been plenty good enough for the remarkably efficient and plush 140mm of redesigned Virtual Pivot Point™ suspension Santa Cruz created just for the new Blur LT. Who would have even noticed the bearings, what with over 2" less standover height from the radically shaped and formed new top tube, way more mud clearance, and a lighter, stiffer carbon fiber rocker? But all that wasn't enough for Santa Cruz. So the Blur LT also features the best sealed bearing pivot system ever created for a bicycle, combining vastly superior angular contact bearings, engineered one-way purging seals, and 15mm locking axle pins. Grease ports on the lower rocker and a lighter, stiffer, molded carbon fiber upper rocker are the things you'll see, but you'd never suspect the ingenious design of those grease ports or the simple brilliance of the locking pivot axles that can't creak or loosen. You'll probably never know how many hours went into refining the pivot positions on this bike, let alone the hours that went into those locking axles or those sweet, sweet new bearings. Then again, that absolutely perfect feeling you get when riding the new Blur LT? I guess that counts as noticing. |
