MATLAB® R2026a Major Update

MATLAB R2026a introduces an important evolution for Speedgoat solutions and Simulink® Real-Time™. This release brings our new Linux-based real-time operating system (Antelope RTOS™), improved performance, enhanced Simulink Real-Time functionalities, and a simplified software installation workflow.

What’s New in R2026a?

  • Antelope RTOS, the new Linux-based real-time operating system from Speedgoat, delivers improved real-time performance, supports a broad ecosystem of modern software libraries, and provides a flexible, future-ready platform for real-time applications.

  • Enhanced capabilities for Simulink Real-Time, including upgraded host-target communication, dynamic and more efficient data logging, REST API support, and advanced profiling and tracing tools for real-time application troubleshooting. For information about what is changing in Simulink Real-Time, refer to the MathWorks' R2026a Simulink Real-Time Major Update page.

  • The Speedgoat Software Installer simplifies the setup process on the host computer by automatically installing the Speedgoat I/O Blockset and all the required software components for building and running Simulink Real-Time applications. The Simulink Real-Time Target Software Support Package is no longer required.

Should I Upgrade to R2026a?

Upgrading to R2026a allows you to benefit from the latest real-time capabilities and performance improvements.

You can choose to fully upgrade your system to MATLAB R2026a today, or use a dual-boot setup to evaluate Antelope RTOS while keeping your current RTOS available. This allows you to test your applications before fully switching to the new platform.

Real-Time Performance

Antelope RTOS introduces significant improvements particularly beneficial for computation-intensive models and arithmetic operations. For many applications, upgrading can unlock measurable performance gains.

As with any platform change, overall performance depends on the characteristics of the model and system configuration. If you observe unexpected behavior after upgrading, our Support team will be happy to assist you in analyzing and optimizing your system configuration.

Product Compatibility

Speedgoat test systems and I/O modules remain supported in R2026a. As part of the platform evolution, software support for a few earlier-generation products ends starting with R2026a. These products continue to operate with MATLAB releases up to and including R2025b.

Please consult the Software Support Information for the complete and up-to-date compatibility list.

If you have questions about your system configuration or are planning an upgrade, our Sales team will be happy to assist.

Staying on MATLAB R2025b and Earlier?

This is of course possible. You can continue using your current setup without changes and your system will work as before.

MATLAB R2025b will remain supported until at least September 2028, with continued software maintenance, bug fixes, and technical support.

You can therefore upgrade to R2026a at your earliest convenience.
