Hardware-in-the-Loop Testing to Certify More Electric and eVTOL Aircraft search search close

Advanced air mobility (AAM) concepts transform the way we travel. More electric aircraft concepts pave the way for sustainable air transportation, and eVTOL (electric vertical take-off-and-landing) aircraft unite multi-copter advantages with those of fixed-wing aircraft.

Bringing electric aircraft like eVTOLs into service poses distinct challenges. Control systems like the battery management system (BMS), controllers of the electric propulsion system, or advanced flight controllers need to be tested requirements-based and end-to-end. Testing shall support fast iterations and needs to integrate with a certification framework. Furthermore, engineers need to fast-track testing and development to meet the ambitious timelines.

This webinar provides engineers who develop and test control systems of electric aircraft with model-based development and testing tools.

We'll demonstrate actual hardware-in-the-loop testing of actual control systems leveraging Speedgoat test systems and the MATLAB® and Simulink® model-based design ecosystem.

Specific topics covered include:

  • Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing of battery management systems (BMS) using emulated batteries, including testing of thermal behavior and fault conditions.
  • HIL testing of electric motor drives and their embedded controllers with a focus on Simulink®-Programmable FPGAs that can represent the dynamic behavior of the power electronics hardware
  • Automated and requirements-based testing of flight controllers from early prototype states until final deployment using continuous integration.
