Testing of battery management systems using emulated batteries with precise voltage and current levels

Battery management systems (BMS) monitor and control the operation of batteries for electric vehicles, aircrafts, and energy storage systems. Testing BMS is necessary to ensure safe and reliable operation of batteries.

Emulate your battery packs at the actual voltage and current levels using Speedgoat test systems. Perform automated requirements-based testing with reproducible test conditions to test your algorithms, such as state of charge (SOC) and state of health (SOH) estimation of batteries. Testing with emulated batteries is safer and faster than testing with actual batteries. For example, you can safely test over-voltage, extreme temperature, and other fault conditions. Test the components of your BMS, such as battery management, cell monitoring, and power distribution units.

Key Capabilities

  • Test your BMS components like the battery management unit (BMU), cell monitoring units (CMU), and power distribution unit.
  • Test the BMS thermal management by emulating temperature sensors.
  • Safely inject fault conditions such as short circuits or reversed polarity.
  • Test algorithms for cell balancing and state of charge (SOC) as well as state of health (SOH) estimation.
  • Leverage ready-to-use reference examples from Simulink and Simscape Battery.
  • Use the Requirements Toolbox to author, import, link, or validate requirements.
  • Automate testing using Simulink Test or any ASAM XIL-compliant tool.
  • Integrate BMS HIL testing into your continuous integration and testing workflow.
