About CAN FD

CAN with Flexible Data-Rate (CAN FD) is an extension of the original CAN bus protocol designed to provide more accurate real-time data with increased bandwidth to meet the demanding needs of next generation vehicle networks. While other automotive protocols like FlexRay already support bandwidths of around 10 Mbit/s, the CAN with Flexible-Data rate protocol offers a more cost-effective solution as it can reuse existing CAN bus network infrastructure.

CAN FD can transfer data several times faster than highspeed CAN. By increasing the user data area to up to 64 bytes, more data can be sent in fast transfer mode, thereby effectively increasing the data rate.
