MathWorks software products are optimized to guarantee the best real-time performance, workflow integration and usability with Simulink Real-Time™, HDL Coder™ and Speedgoat target machines. The latest Simulink and Speedgoat technologies are first supported with this platform.

Speedgoat on the other hand doesn't only build and optimize its target machines for use with Simulink Real-Time and HDL Coder, but also guarantees that each target machine is configured to meet your specific requirements, such as sample rate, I/O, and environmental.

Furthermore, every target machine comes with Simulink driver blocks or FPGA reference designs to configure all installed I/O and protocols functionality. Simulink test models are also provided.

Choice of Form Factors

With various form factors and configurations, this high-performance and cost-effective real-time target machine is designed for all working environments: from the office, to the factory floor to in-vehicle flight control.

Rugged development platform

Its rugged case comes in three sizes (S, M or XL), all designed to withstand high levels of shock and vibration - typical when used in off-highway vehicles, helicopters, or planes. The mainboard, internal power supply, and I/O module carriers form a single rigid unit, isolated from the case to prevent unwanted strains which could occur in environments with varying temperatures.

Fanless by default, optional fans


The Baseline real-time target machine has no mechanically moving parts (e.g. CPU fans, hard disk). The advanced heat dissipation concept is based entirely on thermal conduction. By using solid aluminum heat sinks and optimized internal heat distribution, temperature ranges of -20°C to 60°C (optionally -45°C up to +75°C) can be supported. The enclosure is EMI shielded with all connectors being ESD protected. IP67 is optionally available.

For the Baseline-M, a modified convection rugged case with fans may be installed for solutions requiring additional heat dissipation.

Furthermore, an Openframe solution is available, which can be integrated into existing enclosures or systems.

Range of I/O Connectivity

Every Baseline real-time target machine comes with on-board I/O connectivity including EtherCAT Master, real-time UDP, XCP over Ethernet, RS-232, and USB WebCam support. Furthermore, a large range of additional functionality can be installed in the form of I/O modules covering a wide range of I/O connectivity, I/O emulation for HIL, communication protocols and the latest Programmable FPGA I/O modules (Xilinx Artix®-7 and Kintex®-7). It is possible to install up to six I/O modules depending on the Baseline model.

A selection of over 100 compatible I/O modules are available off the shelf covering most I/O and protocol requirements.

On-board I/O Connectivity

All Baseline real-time target machines include the following on-board protocol connectivity by default:

  • 1 x Ethernet port to connect with the Simulink development computer and for XCP calibration and monitoring via CANape and INCA (XCP Slave)
  • 2 x Ethernet ports supporting:
    • EtherCAT Master
    • Real-time UDP
    • TCP/IP (R2017a+)
    • XCP Master for Bypassing
  • 2 x RS-232 for asynchronous serial communication
  • 1 x USB 3.0 and 2 x USB 2.0 for UVC compliant USB WebCams

Supported I/O Modules

Speedgoat I/O modules offer an easy, flexible way of adding a large variety of I/O connectivity to your real-time target machine. There is a vast selection of compatible FPGAs, I/O connectivity and industrial protocols with the Baseline real-time target machine. For example, the following I/O modules with mini PCI Express (mPCIe) form factor are suitable for all Baseline real-time target machines:

  • IO191: Fast, sequential-sampling, 16-bit analog I/O module
  • IO291: Digital I/O module with isolated inputs, solid state FET outputs and LVTTL I/O lines
  • IO292: Digital I/O Module with 24 TTL Digital I/O Channels
  • IO391-IO393: Configurable FPGA I/O module with TTL I/O and/or RS-422/RS485 lines
  • IO397: Programmable FPGA I/O module with 8 analog I/O and 14 x TTL I/O lines
  • IO581: 4-port serial I/O module supporting RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485
  • IO61x/IO691: I/O modules for CAN, CAN FD, LIN, SAE J1939
  • IO641/IO642: PROFIBUS DP Master or Slave I/O module
  • IO643/IO644: CANopen Master or Slave I/O module
  • IO75x I/O modules for EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, PROFINET, EtherCAT Slave, POWERLINK Slave
  • IO791: Gigabit Ethernet I/O module for real-time UDP, TCP/IP, EtherCAT Master and XCP Master/Slave.

In addition, the Baseline-M supports I/O modules with XMC, PMC and CMC form factors such as the latest Programmable FPGA I/O modules including Xilinx Kintex-7.
